Okay, so y’all know I’m a sucker for a great deal and I’m also obsessed with Costco. Today two worlds collided and there’s an insane deal which essentially can not only get you a FREE Costco membership, but if done right, you can also MAKE money on the purchase. Here are the steps for getting the best deal & if you’re already a Rakuten member, skip to step 3.
1. Sign up for Rakuten! New users will get $30 FREE just for signing up & there are no fees or memberships involved for signing up. Once you have signed up, Rakuten gives you a % from your purchase back in cash when you shop. For this Costco offer, you’ll get the $30 FREE for signing up, as well as 6% cash back from your Groupon purchase! Click HERE to sign up for Rakuten. *I recommend this site for ALL of your online shopping because you literally earn free money for your online shopping addiction purchases. If you’re skeptical, the whole premise is basically participating companies pay Rakuten a commission from purchases made when using Rakuten (aka advertising $) and Rakuten passes along a portion of the commissions to you.
2. Add Button to Browser. After you sign up for Rakuten, if you’re a safari user, jump on your computer and add this button to your browser! It makes it super easy to get your cash back without having to remember to go through their site. With the button, whenever you click on a website to shop, it will pop up telling you how much cash back you can get!

3. Purchase Costco Groupon! This one is pretty self explanatory, but you’ll pay $60 for the Groupon which will get you a Costco membership along with a $40 in-store gift certificate and a $40 online gift certificate. There is a minimum purchase required for the online gift card, but even if you don’t take advantage of that, the $40 in-store certificate alone makes your membership $20. *PLEASE NOTE: Read the fine print in the groupon before purchasing. A VISA must be used to purchase an auto-renewing membership. You can cancel your membership later, but you MUST sign up for the auto-renewal option or you will not receive your gift certificates!
4. Enjoy your FREE Costco Membership! When all is said and done, this is how it will break down! $60 Spent on Groupon – $40 Store Credit – $30 FREE Rakuten Money = +$10 in your pocket! Add the 6% cash back and that’s another $3.60, so you’ve just MADE $13.60 on your Costco Membership Purchase! Woohoo, way to be a smart shopper, now go to Costco and buy all the things.
